Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program- Express Entry Points

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has now increased its allocation to 6,600 in 2018. This is an increase of 600 more than 2017 allocation.

OINP also said it will reopen Notifications of Interest (NOIs) to applicants who qualify under its Express Entry Human Capital Priorities Stream, which allows Ontario to search the federal Express Entry pool and select candidates in the Federal Skilled Worker Class and Canadian Experience Class with at least 400 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points and who meet other eligible criteria.

An Express Entry applicant with a provincial nomination will receive an additional 600 points toward their CRS score, enabling them to have a higher chance of receiving an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

Parents and Grandparents Program Reopens

According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Canadian citizens and permanent residents will soon be able to bring their parents and grandparents to Canada, when the Parents and Grandparents Program reopens in 2018.

IRCC introduced a new process in 2017 for application intake for sponsoring parents and grandparents. Now, sponsors must first notify IRCC that they are interested in sponsoring their parents and grandparents by submitting an “Interest to Sponsor” form. IRCC will then use a random selection process and will invite sponsors to apply to sponsor their parents and grandparents.

The form is now available as of January 2, 2018. Sponsors who wish to apply to sponsor their parents and grandparents in 2018 must first fill out this online form. It will be available until noon February 1, 2018.

Express Entry Draw – Rank Candidates With The Same CRS Score

On November 8, 2017 Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) published the latest Express Entry draw with 2000 candidates issued an Invitation to Apply (ITA).

This is the first draw under the new Tie-Breaking Rule, where in the event that multiple candidates have tied CRS scores, profiles would be ranked according to the date and time of submission of the profiles. The new ranking system ranks candidates with the same Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score by the date and time their profiles were first submitted to the Express Entry pool. The tie-break procedure will prioritize those candidates whose profiles have been in the pool longer.
